EVALUATION OF LEGAL FORMS AND MECHANISM FOR SETTLEMENT OF TRADE DISPUTE IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS IN NIGERIA

Abstract
It is not all conflicts that lead to industrial action or trade dispute. Failure or inability of the parties to resolve an emergency conflict may lead to trade dispute which may result
to industrial action. Trade dispute is common in workplace in Nigeria. The objective of trade union is to protect the interest of their members. This includes all employment related matters such as salaries, wages, promotions and other industrial issues. Employees tend to seek for improved welfare. Therefore,
there are laid down laws meant for trade dispute settlement. The breach of collective agreement leads to trade dispute. It is
upon this background that the writer examines the evaluation of legal forms and mechanism for the settlement of trade dispute in industrial relations in Nigeria. The writer also recommends possible ways by which industrial conflicts will be minimized in Nigeria.
