As the world’s population continues to grow, it does appear that the demand and consumption of energy experiences even a greater growth. This proposition appears to find confirmation in the observation that global energy consumption which is mainly based on fossil fuel that accounts for 88.1% consumption is likely to grow faster than increase in the population. The implication of this observation seems that whereas world population is rapidly on the increase, global energy consumption rate grows even faster or much more rapid than the rate of increase in world population. Truly, if one should take a moment to ponder over the importance of energy to mankind, one would probably come to an irresistible conclusion that there is indeed a compelling need for concerted and deliberate efforts towards sustainable energy creation. Reducing energy demand by using energy more efficiently is the most cost-effective strategy available for reducing carbon dioxide emissions. The International Energy Agency (IEA) asserts that ‘energy efficiency improvements in buildings, appliances, transport, industry and power generation represent the largest and least costly savings in emissions’. Many nations agree, including the United Kingdom which claims that the starting point for addressing climate change risks is ‘to reduce our overall energy use through greater energy efficiency’. The paper aimed at analyzing
energy efficiency practices in the United Kingdom, United States of America and Denmark. The doctrinal research methodology was employed to achieve the aim of this paper. The finding of the paper revealed that the Nigeria the growth of renewable energy is bedeviled by many issues. This paper therefore
recommended that government policies should be made to make it mandatory for public and private companies such as banks, hotels, industries to train their staff on energy management.
